You may have heard the term “Fair Trade,” but do you know what it is or how it applies to the coffee you drink?

Fair trade is an organized social movement and market-based approach to commerce that aims to help producers in developing countries to achieve better trading conditions and promote sustainability. The movement advocates payment of higher prices to producers as well as improved social and environmental standards.

What this means for your coffee is that when you buy fair trade certified k-cups you can be sure that more of your money is going to the actual coffee grower, and that your coffee was produced in an environmentally responsible and sustainable manner. This does not mean the coffee is always organic, however.
